My name is TJ. I am a 5th Grade teacher in the Park Hill School District. I have been with the district for three years now and have loved it ever since I started. I currently have 27 students and I teach them everything from Reading to Writing to Math and Social Studies. This past week, I taught the boys in 5th grade their Growth and Development Unit. That always proves to be an “eye opening” experience. I am an avid runner and enjoy distance running. Half marathons are my race of choice. In my current classroom, I have developed a classroom website. We also use Twitter, Skype, and a Smartboard on a daily basis. I took this course because I have no experience with Podcasting. By completing this course, I hope to understand the various components of Podcasting.

My name is Amanda B. and I am a teacher in the McPherson School District. I teach a multi-age classroom with second and third graders, which always proves to be exciting! I currently have 25 students in my classroom, but have as many as 30 students when we transition to whole group reading and math class. I enjoy being outdoors with my family, and find myself at most athletic events for our local high school. In my classroom I utilize student computers, document cameras, and PowerPoint presentations. I was eager to learn that my district may purchase a new math curriculum next year; therefore we will have the use of Smartboards in our classrooms for the new program. Yippee! I am taking this class to learn more about technology and how to best engage students. I have very little knowledge of Podcasting and I look forward to this learning adventure.

My name is Todd and I am in the Blue Valley School District in Overland Park. I currently teach beginning and advanced levels of Broadcast Technology at Blue Valley West High School. I am fortunate to have some professional production experience and even had the opportunity to work at the Oscars a few years ago. My time this spring has been devoted to basketball coaching, finishing my DFE, and preparing for my June wedding. In the classroom I use a full range of video production equipment: cameras, mics, tripods, lighting, teleprompter, and Apple computers to do all video/audio editing using Final Cut Pro. I am taking this class to continue to incorporate technology into my current curriculum. My experience with podcasting is very minimal and I believe that I can use this experience to further diversify my teaching methods.

My name is Joni P. I am a Kindergarten teacher in White City. This is my 9th year in teaching field and I love the excitement that comes with each and every day! This year I have 11 children in my classroom. At White City there is only one class for each grade since we are such a small school district. I actually went to Kindergarten at the same school I am teaching at 25 years ago! In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, being outdoors, church choir practice, scrapbooking, walking, and cooking. In my Kindergarten classroom we use computers for center time on a daily basis, document cameras, Movie Maker, and digital photography that is incorporated into some lessons. I am taking this class to broaden my knowledge in the area of technology and learn how I can incorporate it into my classroom. I’ve never had any experience with Podcasting so I am looking forward to the journey!

My name is Grant. I teach 9th Grade English at Haysville Alternative High School and I facilitate other blended courses for our Ninth Grade Center. An interesting fact about myself: I spent 11 years serving churches as a Youth Minister before entering public education in 2006. My students use HP laptops (new this year) and all of our content is delivered or backed up in BlackBoard. I could have access to a dozen or so first-gen Itouches if I could present to our school board a compelling reason for them to let me use them. I am very much into the flipped classroom concept and would like to upload podcasts of direct instruction and general instructions so that students can access learning at their convenience. Those are the main reasons I took this class, but I also needed an education technology class for my MS in School Leadership. I plan on getting proficient enough in podcasting to archive all of my “in class” lectures and reviews (edited I hope) so that I can remove all obstacles to student achievement.

My name is Lee W. I am thrilled to be participating in this course. I am a Chemistry and Physics instructor at Belton High School where I am also the Science Department Chairperson, NHS sponsor, Senior Class sponsor, as well as a member of various other school and district committees. I have been in the Belton School District for seven years. I live in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. One thing people may find interesting about me is that, although I am not a big risk taker, my Moodle profile picture reveals that I did, in fact, go sky diving once! Just in case there is any doubt, I am the lower one in the picture, hanging below the guy who looks like he knows what he is doing (and who looks like he is having fun and not about to wet his pants). I enrolled in “Podcasting in the Classroom” for several reasons. Chiefly, I needed to pick up one more course to complete my masters degree in education. More importantly, however, I am intrigued by technology and am always looking for ways to incorporate it into my classes to provide relevant opportunities for my students to learn. I am a bit of an old dog, so to speak, and was not raised in a technological society like the one in which we currently live. I was born after television had made its way into common public use, but I remember the first one with a remote control. I was alive when President John F. Kennedy was elected and so I witnessed the television broadcast showing the first man to step onto the moon approximately nine years later. So I have seen a lot of technology come into existence. Being a scientist, I have learned about many technological advances. I also find that I adapt quickly to using much of the technology that is available and have discovered high degree of comfort with a myriad of tools and programs that are on the market. Even so, I am still impressed and amazed that so much has been achieved and that so many things actually work! In my classroom I use all the old stuff, like VHS and DVDs, as well as audio files that I occasionally find on CDs or on the internet. We also use laptops (both Mac OS and Windows-based). Students often use the computers to make their own presentations in PowerPoint or Prezi. I access some nuggets of education from YouTube and have recently begun to explore that venue to convey some important information to students and parents in addition to allowing students to post their own work. I am also investigating possible applications of a recently acquired mobile iPod lab in our school for use in my classes. That leads me to podcasting. I do not know a great deal about this tool. I understand that it is a way of providing audio and video files which people can download to their computers and other electronic devices. These files then become available to those who download them at their convenience. My desire is to learn how to produce my own podcasts and make them available to others. I also hope to gain insights and methods about how I can get my students involved in making them, too. In this way, I would like to explore the possibility of using podcasting as a method for students to interact with content in the classes I facilitate. I also expect to find ways for podcasting to be used as evidence that students have mastered concepts in the classes. My mind is wide open and I am eager to learn all I can about podcasting and vodcasting. I am excited to be a part of this course.

My name is Kaitlen O. and I am a 5th grade teacher at Hesston Middle School. This is my second year teaching Language Arts, Science and Social Studies. I was converted to Apple technology within the last year when our school adopted an Apple Initiative. I am also a part of the TechRich grant and have access to a cart of iPad 2's on a daily basis. We have also come to love the ease of MacBooks and the Apple programs. I took this class hoping to continue to learn new ways to incorporate podcasting into the classroom. I know a little about podcasting from our Apple Trainer and had my students work in groups to create podcasts at the beginning of the year. I would like to start placing "tutorials" or instructions online for students to access at home when doing their homework or studying for tests.

Hi, my name is Andrea, and I teach History and Government in the Andover School District (near Wichita, Kansas). I coach volleyball as well. My husband and I just bought 30 acres and are planning on building a home and moving to the country. I use a Promethean board, COW (Computers on Wheels), and overhead projector. The reason I took this class was to learn how to implement more technology into my classroom. I believe this class will teach me how to integrate podcasting into my classroom so that I can engage more students in the learning process.

My name is Dana H. I am a Reading Specialist at Wheatridge Middle School in the Gardner-Edgerton School District. I support 18 teachers at the fifth and sixth grade levels through reading professional development and also work with struggling readers in our Title One reading program. I enjoy jogging with my two older children (ages 13 and 10). We typically run about 2-3 5K races each year. We are excited to run our first 10K next weekend. I enjoy being a part of Special Olympics with my younger son (age 8). He starts gymnastics next week for the first time and is thrilled. I currently use a document camera, PowerPoint presentations, computer and projector, and am hoping to be getting a wireless keyboard soon. I am taking this class to fulfill the technology requirements as I complete my master's degree in School Leadership. I chose this class in particular because I have an interest in podcasting. I know very little about podcasts, but have listened to a few reading instruction podcasts and enjoyed them. I would like to learn how to use podcasts with the students that I work with as well as how to use them for professional development with the teachers that I support.

My name is Shannon N. and I teach Business and Computer Technology at Turner High School. Other courses that I teach are Personal Business Management and Intro. to Careers. Several years before deciding to pursue a career in education, I participated in an internship at Walt Disney World. I typically draw upon that experience when I am teaching my students. The technology that I use in the classroom is a computer and an overhead projector, however, I use specific software such as Vision to provide assistance to students as a teaching tool. I took this class because I am interesting in learning how to use other forms of technology. I plan to increase my knowlege of technology and include it in the classroom to increase student engagement.

My name is Crystal H. I teach physical education in Newton. I currently am a second year teacher but an interesting fact about myself is I taught 75 students (three classes) at once, this was a challenge! I took this class because I wanted to learn something outside of my "P.E. walls" in a way that will target the different learning styles and am hoping to discover a way to integrate technology into the classroom. I currently know very little about podcasting, besides it is an audio tool found on the internet, that allows people to listen to presentations. I would like to know how podcasting works (how to create one).

My name is Sarah. I am currently an assistant principal in the Fort Osage School District in Missouri. In our building, we are the leaders of technology in our district. Every classroom has a Smartboard. We have two carts of computers. We also have two computer labs, not to mention the computers in the LMC. This year, we also received a grant from DESE and have 90 iPads for students. We are currently looking at the various possibilities for students to construct and create their own learning with technology. Learning goes beyond the walls of the classroom. That is why I am taking this course. Hopefully, I will be able to create professional development for the teachers in my building.

Hello, my name is Sarah and I teach Kindergarten at Canton-Galva Elementary in Canton, Kansas. Last summer I went on a motorcycle trip to Maine with my dad. It was by far the most amazing trip I've ever gone on and we had a fantastic time. Sadly, the bike we took got away from my dad when he was on a ride this winter and is now pretty sad. Luckily, my dad got away with a broken femur and is on the mend! My classroom has been stocked with technology. When I moved into the classroom I had a SmartBoard and a desktop computer that wasn't running Service Pack 2 yet. I created a small classroom lab with 5 computers. I received a document camera from DonorsChoose.org that we use every day for read alouds--now every book I have can be a big book! We also have leapsters and leappad books that the students love to use during reading and center times. I took this class because I want to know the most effective ways to use and create podcasts in my kindergarten classroom. I am hoping to learn ways to make the podcasts I am creating with my students more interesting and learn ways to use existing podcasts as teaching tools for my students.

My name is Kim A. I have been teaching 5th grade at Tanglewood Elementary for the last four years. I have taught a total of 18 years. I have taught 5th grade for the majority of those years.. I love teaching 5th grade, because the students are capable of doing lots of technology. This year we implemented ipads and mac laptops in our technology program. I have enjoyed teaching the students how to use keynotes for presentations. Students have also taught me many things too. I have no idea about how to do podcasting. I do know a little of how to find them on itunes university. Podcasting is something I would like to teach my students how to do. I would love to know how to include podcasting in my lessons, and how to teach my students how to create their own podcasts.
